Irkutsk residents call their city the capital of Eastern Siberia and simply «the middle of the earth». It is equally far from the Northern and southern oceans, to the Western and Eastern capitals. However, there is absolutely no provincial dullness and grayness. On the contrary, it is a bright, joyful and very Sunny city.

The Omen Cathedral

The history of the Omen cathedral is connected with many famous Russians people: Petr I donated/presented an Evangel for the monastyry in 1693, the Supreme Ruler of Russia was shot near the walls of this church, founder of Russian-American company Grigoriy Shelekhov, many Decembrists was buried on the monastery’s territory.

Alexander Kolchak’s monument

The first monument to an Imperial Russian admiral, military leader and great polar explorer, the leader of White movement during Russian Civil war was appeared in Irkutsk city. In Kolchak’s life Irkutsk had a special place. He was a lecturer at Irkutsk State University, left Irkutsk for to Russo – Japanese war and even got married here.
